SPORTS SCHOOL

The St.Joseph’s Sports School was inaugurated in May, 1997. Students from Batticaloa, Mannar and Trincomalee receive sports training here while being students of St.Joseph’s College. Three additional Physical Training Teachers were appointed to impart training to these sports scholars. These students receive bursaries for their maintenance while at the Sports School. The bursary is granted by the Education Department. At present about 30 students receive their training and Education here. The boys from the Sports School always remember and are thankful to Rev.Bro.Soosaithasan who was the first administrator of the Sports School.

It should be mentioned here that the scholars of the St. Joseph’s Sports School have contributed immensely to the progress of this college in the field of sports and physical education. The chief instructor of the Sports School Mr.S.Thayaparan and other sports instructors Mr.J.Uthayaretnam and Mr.S.Subaideen have contributed much for the progress of the Sports School. We will fail in our duty if we do not mention others who being old boys of the college and lovers of sports have been instrumental in placing the college in the sports map of our country. We appreciate the services of Mr.S.Wijayaneethan, Athletics coach, Messrs D.C.Vasanthan and T.M.Dhayalan, Foot ball coaches, Mr.Roshan Mathews who have enabled the laurels this college has earned in sports and games. Suffice it to say that we, the alumni of St. Joseph’s College, sincerely appreciate their services and extend our sincere gratitude to all of them. Also we like to thank Fr.Jeevanadhas, Principal of the College, for his full support and the guidance to the Sports school.
