Interact is a Rotary sponsored non profit, non political, international service organization of secondary school age youth. There are more than 9000 Interact Clubs in 113 nations with more than 206000 members. The Interact Club of St. Joseph’s College was inaugurated as the second Interact Club of Trincomalee on 19th March 1990 by the sponsors, Rotary Club of Trincomalee, with the support of the School Administration and the journey of service was initiated with the theme “Service above Self”.

HISTORY OF JOES INTERACT

The Interact Club of St. Joseph’s College was inaugurated as the second Interact Club of Trincomalee on 19th March 1990 by the sponsors Rotary Club of Trincomalee with the support of the School Administration and the journey of service was initiated with the theme “Service above Self”. During the Period of President Philip Murugaiah (1992/93) the club carried out several tremendous projects and gained a good name and support from the people of Trincomalee and made a good platform for the club. Presidency year of Maxy Mark Fernando was used by the club to elevate the education levels of students, conducting educational seminars and worthy community service projects. Throughout the era of the Fernando brothers the club raised funds and built a large entrance for the college. In the periods of Alan Nirojan and K.Rameshan an improvement was held in Club Service as well as International Understanding.

Unfortunately, the activities of the club was terminated for a few months and later revived. Int.G.K. Joel Janantan was installed as the 12th President on 2nd August 2002 by the Sponsoring Rotary. In this 13th year (2002/03) the club completed 34 projects successfully, including all the avenues of services with team spirit and dynamism. In this year, Joes Interact published its first Bulletin titled of “The Interaction” and issued it all over District 3220. In the 13th Interact District Conference, the club took part with 100% participation and built a platform of relationship with other Interact Clubs, Organization as well as Rotary Organization. Joes Interact was recognized as the Best Interact Club in the District, and its bulletin earned the appreciation as the Best Bulletin while President Joel was recognized as the Best President by the Interact Zone V (Batticaloa, Jaffna & Trincomalee) and Interact District 3220. Asia Zone VI A, Sri Lanka honoured us by the Citation Award as the Best Interact club in Sri Lanka for the year 2002/03. President Joel was honored as the Best Interactor in Sri Lanka.

In 2003/04, Joes Interactors completed 139 projects, including all avenues of services and had an international record in Interact Service, under the same presidency and the leadership of a dynamic administrative committee. The year was innovative for service journey and included advancement and vast strides in the projects, such as “Friends 2K+2”, Free Education, Joes way, Betterment of tomorrow, Youth Exchange, etc… Newsletters titled “Joestract Breeze” were published and the second bulletin was published titled “Flash”. The club also extended its relationship with overseas Interact Clubs & Interact Organizations. It took part in several functions of Interact and Rotary family; especially two Joes Interactors (G.K. Joel Janantan & R.Gobikrishna) for first time in history of Joes Interact, President Joel won the Award of Excellence. In the same year, Interact District appointed President Joel as the Regional Interact Coordinator and the Secretary S.Sopan as the Regional Interact Secretary for the North & east Interact Region. Vice President S.Hobinath and Director – Cultural Affaires M.Suthan were in the Zone Interact Committee of Trincomalee Interact Zone [IV]. During the year, the club received Regional Awards for Best Club, Best Annual Report, Best Bulletin, Best Newsletter, Best Project, Best Club Service Project, Best Community Service Project, Best Finance Project, Best International Understanding Project and Int.M.Suthan was honored as the Best Interactor of the North & East Interact Region for the year 2003/04. Joes Interact received the honor as the Best Interact Club in Sri Lanka for the second time by the Citation Award, and President Joel was honored as the best President in Sri Lanka by the Interact District 3220. The Rotary International Recognition Pin was awarded to the President for the excellence of his service and the club for the year 2003/04.

Currently the club under the Presidency of Int.M.Suthan and his committee with 30 active members and the support of the Staff Advisor Mr.S.Selvakumar and the Rotary Advisor Rtn.A.Z.J.Singarayer is striving to maintain the same high traditions bet by the former leade
